Your journal is stored on your device
DearAnxiety stores your cats, written entries, check-ins, photos, and voice notes locally on your device. Your journal is not sent to the developer. The app has no advertising or third-party tracking.
Optional app usage sharing
App versions that offer app usage sharing ask once: "Help improve DearAnxiety by sharing app usage." Sharing is off by default. Choosing Allow enables it. Choosing No thanks keeps it off, and the app does not repeat the prompt. Every feature remains available either way.
If you allow sharing, DearAnxiety records counts of app use and feature actions, such as starting or saving an anxiety, completing a check-in, using Zen Mode, viewing patterns, changing a theme, or configuring reminders. It also counts generic operation failures. These counts are grouped by calendar day, app version, selected theme, and the first day you allowed sharing to help Kunwoo Yoon understand which features people use and where the app needs work.
Usage reports do not include journal text, predictions, outcomes, categories, intensity values, questionnaire answers, photos, voice notes, names, email addresses, journal record identifiers, permanent user or device identifiers, or exact event timestamps. A random report identifier prevents upload retries from counting the same report twice. These reports are processed through Google Cloud.
The usage endpoint does not store IP addresses or HTTP request logs. It temporarily processes connection information in memory to protect the service from abuse. Daily aggregate totals have no fixed expiry. Hashed markers used to prevent duplicate reports expire after 120 days and are removed through automatic cleanup after expiry.
You can change app usage sharing in Settings. Turning it off stops collection and transmission and clears queued reports that have not been sent. Activity before you allow sharing is not collected or uploaded later. Counts already submitted remain in aggregate reports; they are not connected to your journal.
Permissions
The iOS photo picker lets you select individual photos without giving DearAnxiety access to your whole photo library. Microphone access is requested only when you choose to record a voice note. You can decline microphone access and keep using the rest of the app.
Free access
Every feature is free. The app has no subscription, in-app purchase, advertising, or third-party tracking.
Protection and backups
DearAnxiety applies complete iOS file protection to its local data and managed attachments. Your journal can be included in the encrypted device backups you enable through Apple. DearAnxiety does not automatically sync your journal between devices.
Your choices
Settings lets you export a local copy of your data or permanently delete all local anxiety data and managed attachments.
Support and feedback forms
Contact Support, Send Feedback, Request a Feature, and Report a Bug open a form inside DearAnxiety. The app does not attach or send your cats, entries, check-ins, photos, or voice notes. If you submit an in-app form, it sends only the message you type, the request type, the app version, and the iOS version. It does not ask for or send your email address. Kunwoo Yoon uses submitted feedback to respond, fix problems, and improve DearAnxiety. Submitted feedback is reviewed to understand common issues and requests.
The separate support website can collect a reply email if you choose to enter one. Support submissions are delivered through Google Cloud, Microsoft 365, and Google email services. They are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond, troubleshoot, prevent abuse, maintain support records, or meet legal obligations. The website and its hosting providers may process standard connection information for security and delivery. The support site has no advertising or usage analytics.
To ask for a support submission to be deleted, use the support form and include enough information to identify the earlier message.
